In 2005 the Week of Science in the Slovak Republic took place at the national level in participation with the European Commission. In addition to the main activities organized by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic for this event, 260 collateral events were organized in 2005 and more than 400 took place in the regions of Slovakia. The aim of such science weeks is to engage and inspire people of all ages with science, engineering and technology.
Science is above all a quest for knowledge and how it can be used to improve our lives, lifestyles, and our living world. An important goal of today’s knowledge society is an increase in the social status and acknowledgement of the importance of science and technology within society, as part of the long-term development plan of the Slovak Republic. Achievement of this goal requires construction of a society in which youth value training and education. Research and development must be more user-friendly.
The aim of such science weeks is to engage and inspire people of all ages with science, engineering and technology.
