Quality food is one of the conditions for a healthy and happy life; what is more, it is an important part of our social being. The Danubius Gastro fair is the top event – a meeting point for people with a professional interest in gastronomy, as well as those ethusiasts seeking special ingredients and tips for their usage. What adds on the event's popularity is the possiblity to taste all presented beverages and food. The example of an interesting snack could be a bio-chocolate flavoured by Bretton seaweeds or with a rose flavour. A different flower that we mainly use in spring bunches – a violet – in the French town Tolouse is often served as an ingredient of gastronomic specialities. At the Danubius Gastro fair, violets fair can be tasted in sugar, tea, chocolate, marmelade, however their most luxurious version is crystalised flowers of violet in sugar. This excellent product is added to Champagne.

If we want to name some more curiosities, it will definitely be exotic fruits and vegetables.

Jackfruit, pitahaya, kiwano, castel - franco, romanesco, san marzano are only a few of the great number of kinds that are unusual for our kitchens. Excellent cooks will show how to use these specialties in food preparation. On 21 Saturday there will be a fashion show held displaying original clothes sewn from fruit, vegetables, lettucce, edible flowers and herbs.

What gives a gastronomic fair the right atmosphere are contests and exhibitions, within which the professionals compare their skills and at the same time they are a source of inspiration to the general public. Over 600 organisers and contestants participate in this year's accompanying programmes. One of the most attractive events will be the National exhibition of cookery and confectionery art named „Poetry in Gastronomy“ which includes competing products of hotels, restaurants, confectioneries, professional and vocational schools from the whole of Slovakia.

The final round of the national competition Gastro Junior Skills Slovakia 2011/2012 is planned for 21 Friday. The winner will represent our country in an international competition EuroSkills, which young talents from the whole Europe will take part in. Contestants are divided into two categories – a cook and a confectioner – in preparation of meals from given ingredients. Performances will be evaluated by the jurry consisting of: Jaroslav Žídek, Pavel Pospíšil, Martin Kovarský, Zlatica Kramárová and Ľubo Herko.

Even experienced cooks will compete in Danubius Gastro Cup, Gastro Junior, Callebaut Cup. Coffee lovers will enjoy barista contests Coffee Master Junior and Barista Open, where there will be measured skills and promptness in preparation of espresso, capuccino and coctails.

The bakers´ contest for The Best Bratislava Roll will take place for the sixth time now and will be enriched by Most Beautiful Plaited Product from Leavened Dough and the Most Beautiful Caramel Work of Art competitions.
